Who We Are
We didn't start with a business plan. We started with a problem.
So we started building our own answer.
The Origin
We saw how access to fresh food varies across Los Angeles. Instead of waiting for someone else to solve it, we started learning how to grow.
Jaylen started growing because he wanted a closer connection to the food he eats and more control over how it is grown. Access to fresh food is uneven across Los Angeles. Learning to grow became a way to build practical skills and share them with the community.
It started in a glass jar. Then a pot. Then a bigger pot. Every time a limitation showed up, the answer was the same: figure it out and go further. Not because it was easy. Because stopping wasn't an option.
"If the system won't give your community access to quality food, you learn to grow it yourself."
— JJ Stone Craft HouseAccess to fresh food varies across Los Angeles neighborhoods. That gap is part of why we started growing and learning how to build a food business rooted in agriculture.
The garden is where we are testing the method. Our longer-term aim is a working farm, then a farm-led restaurant and a grocery or market, with each step grounded in proven demand and the ability to sustain itself.
The Build
Every step was earned. Nothing was skipped.
This is what iteration looks like here: one growing problem addressed at a time, with each solution tested by the next season.
The Philosophy
We don't believe in shortcuts because we've seen what they cost.
When you grow in living soil you learn fast that you can't fake the foundation. Cut corners underground and the plant exposes you every time. That lesson shaped everything about how JJ Stone operates.
Large food supply chains can make it hard to see how and where food was grown. We want the growing decisions to be visible. This brand is built on craft over commodity, impact over revenue. We have invested deeply in the raised bed before having anything to sell because the foundation matters. The goal is food that stands apart on its own quality. When there is a product worth offering, revenue must cover the work and help the business grow.
If that takes longer, it takes longer. The soil doesn't rush. Neither do we.
The Vision
Built from the Ground Up.
JJ Stone Craft House is developing a living-soil growing system in Los Angeles. The raised bed is built; now we are learning from what grows there and documenting the choices and results.
The longer-term goal is to grow a financially durable farm and expand access to carefully grown food. A farm-led restaurant and grocery or market could follow when production, demand, and finances can support them. The raised bed is the first place to learn and document the method, not a limit on where this business can go.
Los Angeles is home. The work starts here.
Land is the long game. Legacy is the point.
The Founders
Two brothers. Same values. Built from nothing, together.
Jaylen
Cultivation lead and systems builder. Started growing food because the alternative was accepting a system that wasn't working for his community. Built every stage of this operation by hand, from a glass jar to a controlled environment shed grow, because every limitation that showed up just became the next problem to solve.
Drawn to every layer of how things grow: soil biology, the relationships between roots and microbes, and the connection between what comes out of the ground and what ends up on someone's table. That connection is the foundation of what JJ Stone is building toward: a system where the growing decisions can be seen and explained.
Jeremiah
Co-founder and equal stakeholder. Where Jaylen built the cultivation system, Jeremiah helped build the standard: the belief that what JJ Stone grows and stands behind has to mean something real to the people receiving it, not just the people producing it.
Same values, same refusal to compromise. Not a silent partner but a co-architect who has been part of every decision about what this brand becomes and what it refuses to be. The kind of partner who trusts the vision completely, shows up when the work isn't glamorous, and pushes the standard higher without pushing the direction off course. That consistency is what makes the mission possible.
If you've ever been priced out, fed less, or told to accept it, you already know why this exists.
This work is rooted in South Los Angeles and in the belief that more people deserve a direct connection to good food. We're starting in the soil and sharing what we learn.
